Installation & Fit

How to Install Trash Shield

Most pull-out setups work. A few do not. Run the three checks below before you order, then follow the three install steps once your Trash Shield arrives.

Will It Work in Your Cabinet?

Three checks. If your setup clears all three, Trash Shield will work.

Check 1: Cabinet Style

Works With

  • Most standard pull-out trash can systems
  • Single and double bin configurations
  • Bottom-mount and side-mount slide rails
  • Standard under-cabinet widths (12 to 21 inches)

Does Not Work With

  • Freestanding or pedal-operated bins
  • Top-mount or door-mount trash systems
  • Custom-built or fully enclosed cabinetry
  • Round or oval bins

Check 2: Gap Clearance

Pull the bin out and level it. Measure from the top of the bin's rim straight up to the underside of the countertop or cabinet above it.

Minimum gap is 3 inches. If your gap is less than 3 inches, Trash Shield will not fit. If your gap falls between sizes, choose the smaller size.

Check 3: Unobstructed Lip

Trash Shield clips over the exposed lip of your trash can. Anything that interrupts, raises, doubles, or hides that lip will prevent it from clipping on. If your setup looks like any of these, it will not fit.

Which Size Is Right for You?

Two measurements matter. Your gap is the space between the top of your trash can and the underside of the cabinet above it. That is what you measured in Check 2. Each Trash Shield's height is the part that sticks up above the can rim. Pick the size whose minimum gap your measurement meets.

Small

Minimum gap needed

2.5 in

Medium

4 in

Large

If your gap falls between sizes, choose the smaller size.

All four colors (Black, White, Light Blue, Muted Red) are available in every size.

Installing Trash Shield

Measured your gap and picked your size? Here's the 30-second install.

  1. Clip Trash Shield over the lip of the can.
  2. Drape your trash bag over both the can and Trash Shield. The inline lip captures the bag without disrupting normal bag use.
  3. Close the cabinet and confirm nothing is bumping or catching.

What It Looks Like When Done

When installed correctly, the shield sits flush against the lip, the bag is captured cleanly inside, and the cabinet closes without contact.

Troubleshooting

Removal

Trash Shield clips off the same way it clips on. No tools, no adhesive, no marks left on your cabinet.
